Description

"Remember" by Josh Groban

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
Just remember me

I am the one star that keeps burning, so brightly,
It is the last light, to fade into the rising sun

I'm with you
Whenever you tell, my story
For I am all I've done

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me, in your memory
Remember me

I am the one voice in the cold wind, that whispers
And if you listen, you'll hear me call across the sky

As long as I still can reach out, and touch you
Then I will never die

Remember, I'll never leave you
If you will only
Remember me

Remember me...

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory

Remember, when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
I live forever
Remember me

Remember me
Remember... me...

Nothing I do artwise is ever perfect or remotely close, I do it because I love it. With this piece, I wanted to pay tribute to someone dear to me, that I miss very much. My Grandpa Frank fought in World War II and recieved a purple heart. Every time I look at it, I think of him. He was a tiny little fellow about 100 pounds, short, with no teeth and a New York accent. But what a sweet old man he was! My fondest memories of him were when going to visit him, I'd always find him lounging on his bed, watching black and white tv shows, with his ashtray and a Hershey bar close at hand on his night table. Each time I'd walk in to see him he'd say "Hi honey, would you like some chocolate?" and we share it together and the scrawny little fellow would give me a big hug. My grandpa was also a carpenter, and we have many precious things that he built- including wooden weather vanes and a kid-sized table and chairs made for my brother and I. He even built the deck at our old house, which was HUGE!. I've driven by houses that he help built and I remember him. I think about him all the time, his funny little voice, the things he left behind, how he always wore the same mustard yellow sweater. I like to look through all the old pictures and home videos and I remember how sweet he was. I hope that he is looking down on me from heaven, and I hope he is proud of me. He died of lung cancer when I was 11, but the impact he made on me in those 11 years was everlasting.

I want to dedicate this painting to him as well as the song posted above. :rose:

I took a picture of his purple heart in its case and added the paper rose that is also in the composition as a tribute to my Grandma Marion (my Grandma had a bunch of these paper roses, so it was actually hers). They lived in the same house for 50 years and she had the most beautiful rose garden you've ever seen. Any time I look at this, though it was intended as a tribute to my Grandpa, I will think of them both and "remember."

Thanks for looking, and reading if you did! ;)
