"The Kiss"

Summer 2010.
I started this oil painting this June, 2010, for a few reasons. The Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorite movies of all time, if not my favorite, and I absolutely had to represent this scene some how, no question. This scene is one of the most beautiful and poignant in the whole film, which is one of the most wonderful films in existence- in my opinion. If you've never seen this movie, I suggest you turn off your computer right now, head out to the local video store and rent it. It's a romantic French and Indian War/adventure epic amidst the most beautiful scenery and the most powerful music you've ever heard. (Can you tell I'm passionate about it yet?!
) This scene, in which the main characters, Hawkeye (the adopted white son of a Mohican Indian chief) and Cora (the daughter of a British colonel) profess their love, never fails to inspire me. And this is one of the most famous shots in the whole film. I titled this painting "The Kiss" because during this scene, that is the name of the background music from the movie soundtrack. It remains to this day, one of the most gorgeous pieces of music I have ever heard and one of my favorite songs- it takes my breath away every time. I referenced two pictures for this painting: the soundtrack cover and a dvd still, and though it may not be perfect, I definitely put my heart into it because I truly love this film. I kept the background pretty impressionistic, because in this shot, emphasis is all about the characters and their lovely pose. This was definitely a test in color, its a shame the camera dulls it down so much! Now I suggest you click the link above and listen to the music behind this painting
